I’ll admit it. I have a list of exercises that I use to make people feel like shit and hate their lives. It sounds awful, but that’s just how I am.
Okay, okay, you got me. I’m kidding. I don’t actually have a list like that. I’d feel like a bad person. But I do have a few go-to exercises that I use when I’m working with someone who needs to learn a lesson about where they’re really at. Or, ya know, when I just really want to smoke someone. Try not to hate me.
Of course, I don’t use these exercises solely for this purpose. They’re all great movements that deserve a regular rotation in any good program. However, I do tend to reserve them to thrash people. We all need a good spanking (get your mind out of the gutter, you) every now and then, and these exercises are perfect for it.
When possible, I prefer to repurpose “low-skill” or easier exercises into more difficult movements. You’ll notice that two of the three exercises below fall into that category. As for the Tall Kneeling Pulse Presses…those definitely aren’t low-skill.
If you’re at the beginner or intermediate level, you’ll probably have better luck using the monster walks or rope squats and lunges. But if you’re up for the challenge, don’t be afraid to give the pulse presses a shot. Just remember…I warned you.
